Hi, I’m Eric.
If you’ve been following my journey here at The Kilted Leatherworker LLC for a while, you know that I don’t like to rush things. As a leatherworker, I believe the best handmade leather goods come from patience, care, and a real respect for the material. There is something about the way leather feels under your hands when you take your time: what I like to call "Artisan Pacing." It’s that slow, deliberate process of making sure every cut is straight, every edge is burnished, and every stitch is tucked exactly where it belongs.
Today, I am incredibly excited to introduce you to a project that has been living on my workbench in Katy, Texas, for quite some time. It’s a piece that represents the pinnacle of what I do as a leatherworker. Meet the Traveler 2.0.
When I first designed the original Traveler, I wanted something rugged and functional. It was a hit, and at $160, it remains a workhorse for many of you. But I kept asking myself: "What would an 'Elite' version of this look like? What if I didn't hold back on the materials or the labor?"
The Traveler 2.0 is the answer to those questions. It is, quite simply, the new gold standard for your belt.
The Evolution of an Icon
As you may have guessed, I’m a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to the gear I carry. I’ve always believed that the items we use every day should tell a story. They should age with us, taking on a patina that reflects our adventures.
The original Traveler was great, but the Traveler 2.0 is a legacy piece. At a $300 price point, I know it’s an investment. But once you hold it, you’ll understand why. This isn’t just a pouch; it’s a piece of artisan craftsmanship designed to last generations.

Why "Elite" Matters: The Materials
When I set out to build the 2.0, I started with the foundation: the leather. I chose a premium vegetable-tanned (veg-tan) leather in a rich, medium brown. There’s something about veg-tan that just feels "right." It has a stiffness and a scent that reminds me of old-world saddlery. It’s durable, it’s honest, and it only gets better the more you use it.
But the real magic happens on the inside.
I decided to line the Traveler 2.0 with glazed pig skin. If you’ve never felt glazed pig skin, it’s a game-changer. It’s incredibly smooth, which means your phone or your gear slides in and out without any friction, but it’s also tough as nails. It adds a level of structure and luxury that you just don't find in standard belt pouches. It’s like the difference between a standard off-the-shelf soda and a premium, hand-crafted root beer: the depth of quality is just on another level.
Artisan Pacing: Hand-Stitched in Katy, Texas
I mentioned "Artisan Pacing" earlier, and that’s really the heart of this product. In a world where everything is mass-produced by machines, I’m proud to say that the Traveler 2.0 is made by my own two hands right here in Katy, Texas.
The straps on the 2.0 aren't just slapped on. They are both riveted and hand-stitched. Why do both? Because I want to ensure that every stitch is perfect and that the structural integrity of the pouch is absolute. Hand-stitching (the saddle stitch) is significantly stronger than a machine lock-stitch. If one thread were to ever break (which is unlikely), the rest of the stitching would remain secure.

I spend hours on each unit, ensuring the tension is right and the alignment is spot-on. It’s a slow process, but it’s the only way I know how to guarantee the quality that The Kilted Leatherworker stands for.
Built for the Long Haul: Features and Hardware
I wanted the hardware to match the rugged, high-end feel of the leather. So, I went with a gun metal buckle. It has a matte, sophisticated look that complements the medium brown leather perfectly. It’s heavy, it’s solid, and it clicks into place with a satisfying weight.

We’ve also included two belt loops on the back. This is a small detail that makes a huge difference. By having two loops, the pouch sits more securely on your hip, preventing it from sliding around or sagging. Whether you’re hiking through the woods or just heading to the grocery store, it stays exactly where you want it.
The Ultimate Upgrade for "The Highland Nomad"
If you already own The Highland Nomad (our classic buffalo belt pouch), you know how useful a belt-mounted carry system can be. The Traveler 2.0 is designed to be the ultimate companion to that setup.
While The Highland Nomad offers that rustic, traditional aesthetic, the Traveler 2.0 brings a more refined, "Elite" vibe to your kit. They look incredible side-by-side. Imagine your Highland Nomad holding your essentials on one side and the Traveler 2.0 protecting your tech and valuables on the other. It’s a complete system for the modern adventurer.
Comparison: The Traveler vs. The Traveler 2.0
I often get asked if the upgrade is worth it. Here is how I break it down for my friends:
- The Original Traveler ($160): A fantastic, durable, single-layer leather pouch. It’s rugged, functional, and perfect for daily hard use. It’s a great entry point into high-quality leather goods.
- The Traveler 2.0 ($300): This is the "Legacy" version. It features the glazed pig skin lining, the dual-construction (rivets + hand-stitching), premium veg-tan leather, and upgraded gun metal hardware.
It’s like comparing a reliable truck to a custom-built luxury off-roader. Both will get you where you’re going, but one does it with a level of refinement and detail that you can feel every time you touch it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What fits inside the Traveler 2.0?
I designed this with modern life in mind. It will comfortably hold even the larger smartphones (like the Pro Max models) along with a slim wallet or a small notebook.
Is the leather waterproof?
While veg-tan leather has some natural water resistance, I wouldn't recommend taking it for a swim! However, it handles rain and daily splashes just fine. I always recommend a light coat of leather conditioner every few months to keep it supple.
Where is it made?
Every single Traveler 2.0 is handmade by me, Eric, in my workshop in Katy, Texas.
How do I style it?
It looks great on a sturdy leather belt paired with denim or even a kilt (of course!). The medium brown is versatile enough to go with almost anything in your wardrobe.
Available Now
I don’t make these in massive batches. Because of the "Artisan Pacing" required to get these right, I only have a few available at any given time. If you’ve been looking for that one "forever" piece to add to your collection, this is it.
You can find the Traveler 2.0 on our website now.
